With High School Friends, Gochang, Korea (March 2022)

Out of six friends we had in my high school time, four of us had a get-together in Gochang, Cholla-bukdo. One came from Gwangju, two from Seoul, and myself from Mokpo while I was staying there. It was a little too early for the spring season, but being with friends alone was good enough.

Hyungsuk from Gwangju is a retired educator. He retired as Principal of an elementary school. He is helping with athletes and other social services while traveling often. Far-right in the photo below.

Myung-Gyu from Seoul is a retired colonel in the Korean Army. He went to the Korean Army Academy and even captured an armed spy from North Korea while he was a captain. We thought he would make a general, but he did not. Anyway, he is into several hobbies and seems to enjoy his life. Right next to me in the photo below.

Gil-Yong is from Seoul and is a retired insurance guy. He went through some medical challenges but has successfully overcome them and is now healthy. He is the second from the right in the photo below.

Two who were not able to make to the reunion were Young Soo who is living in Busan. He is a retired businessman who worked for long in the shipbuilding industry. He was tied up helping his wife in running a business.

The other one is Young Sik who lives in Calgary, Canada. He could not join us for an obvious reason.

Be;pw os a photo of us six friends when we were still in school, probably in 1972. Can you tell who is who? A hint. Young Soo is far left in the back row and Young Sik is the second from right in the back row.

We had a good time on this one-night-two-day trip.

We agreed to meet in Gochang again in 10 years. We may not be sure where we will be in life and health, but it gave us a hope to look forward to to plan for the future. Best wishes, my friends. - Jeffrey
