Updates on Life in Greer, SC (July 2023)

Floor Renovation and House Cleaning

After we decided to take in a room mate to live with us so that we have someone living in our house while we travel extensively, we decided to replace the old and ugly carpet upstairs and the stairs.

We hired Ken Adams and he brought his older brother to finish the work over 10 days. We used water-proof laminate on most of the floor, luxury vinyl plank or LVP in the bathroom and the utility room, and used wooden floor on the stairs. It was quite messy to do the work with all the furniture and luggage, but it was completed nonetheless and it turned out great!

While Ken was at our house, he replaced two locks with keypad locks and also installed cover curtain on most of the windows upstairs. It was an easy task for the professional workers.

After the work, Kristin called Maria and her team to clean the entire house. The house was reborn clean.

While the interior was being renewed, we called a house wash guy, Don, to wash the house exterior as well.

New Lawn Mowing Services

Rick Lema, who handled lawn mowing for the past two years or so, retired due to his knee and hip replacement surgeries. We hired Justin's Vintage Lawn Care. His work quality turned out to be great and we were extremely happy.

Neighborhood Hiking Trails

Both Kristin and I have been getting chiropractic treatments from Joel Cox. He once informed us that there is a wooded hiking trail near our house complex. It is in a walking distance and located in a nearby house subdivision. The entrance had a sign, called Nature Trail Head.

Whenever possible, we walked on the trail even in the afternoon when the sun was scorching. It was well shaded by the trees. It is a 2.9 km short trail roundtrip, but it was a good break from the scorching heat.

We checked out another trail that had a covered bridge. But, the trail was far too short.

House 509 Bistro and Wine Bar

We live in a house located in O'Neal Village that consists of 700 + homes. It is a bit away from major commercial area so the Village has a few shops within its complex. One of them is House 509 Bistro and Wine Bar.

We pass by the restaurant every time we walk in the morning or in the evening. So we decided to pay a courtesy visit to support the business within the Village. It turned out that our experience was more than satisfactory despite a bit expensive price tag.

Later, we invited Sara and Dr. Yoon couple for dinner to share the joy.

Danny and Haeok Orr

We met this couple at the Korean church we worship and fellowship: Korean Grace Church of Greenville. Kristin belongs to a fellowship and prayer group with Haeok and once in a while we get together. They invited us for dinner before we left for an extended trip in August. They are a lovely couple.

Only a few days before we left home on August 5, we received a new room mate: Professor Jong Eun Lee. He is a son of a missionary to Russia and he spent his youth in St Petersburg. He went to college and completed his doctorate degree in political science at American International University in D.C. His first full time teaching job is with North Greenville University, only 12 minute drive from our home. He was so new and naive with a social life and I had to teach him how to drive. We had to put him and the house in God's hands. But, we were grateful for him to stay with us while we will be traveling for seven months.

As I explained before, we ended up coming to Greer, Greenville County, South Carolina without any affiliation with anyone, but God has led us to a wonderful place with a mild climate, good water and air quality, and affordable cost of living. We are considering settling down here, unless the Lord leads us elsewhere based on His infinitely better and higher will than ours. - Jeffrey
