Bran Castle, Romania (August 2023)

Bran Castle is famous as the place where Dracula lives. Thus, outside Transylvania, it is known as Dracula's Castle. Dracula is the tile of a fiction written by Bram Stoker. In his novel, Dracula is a vampire that lives with the fresh blood of people. It is unclear if Bram Stoker knew about this castle because the description of the castle in the novel looks different from Bran Castle. But, there was a general whose name was Dracula and he was known to be a cruel warrior. At any rate, it is a fiction, but it sounds attractive enough for people to want to visit this castle and to be willing to pay $10,000 euros to stay over night. Yikes! Bran is located 25 km south of Brasov. The castle was built by the Saxxons in 1377 and remains an important landmark of Transylvania.

On the way to the castle, we had to wait in a long line because the pathway was packed with people. Oh dear...

The castle belonged to Queen Marie and we saw many things that she enjoyed her life.

As you can see from the photos above, it is just another castle. Noteworthy would be it is a wooden castle due to its antiquity. But, the commercial spirit squeezed something like this into the castle: dancing ghosts.

Our tour guide was this lady and I could not resist an imagination that she could become an easy prey of the Dracula if it existed. Would you agree? Lol.

Before we went to Bran Castle, we stopped over at the Romania's First Elementary School that is a U.N. heritage site. We sat at the desks of elementary students to listen to the historical background and its significance. It was exhibiting many old version of bibles.

After Bran Castle, we drove for three hours to Bucharest, our final destination. At the end of the day, we had a dinner at one of the Transylvania's traditional restaurants. We were sitting in the courtyard

While we were eating, several dancers performend their traditional dances, but we could not enjoy them very much because it was too hot.

We are now into the final days of our tour. - Jeffrey
