SfK BAM Field Trip 2023 (III) - Cambodia (October 2023)

After we left Hochimin City, we flew to arrive at Phnom Penh City in Cambodia where Hesed has multiple operations. For this trip, we flew a propelled airplane.

The first business we visited was Borisoth which sells Hesed products and other organic agricultural products of ministries. They also sell souvenirs for short-term mission team members to take with them back home. They handed over the previous location to someone else, but we found the new location much better with a bigger space, a quieter environment, a better-organized store, at a much lower rent.

We visited Korean Language Institute which primarily serves Cambodians who want to work in Korea. They teach EPS while Danang's ICLS teach TOEIC so they could help each other in expanding their business lines.

We also visited Hesed's MOI Coffee. They also relocated to a new office. They also looked better organized than before with all staff at one location.

We visited Fantasia Chicken which serves the deaf people, led by the grandson of Rev Yang Won Sohn whose nickname is "Atomic Bomb of Love." We enjoyed their food as in the past.

We visited Dankao Village which was established on the garbage dump for Phnom Penh City. A group of missionaries are serving these people with a school, a church, and economic improvement projects. This visit was the third time for me and we finally reached a few solutions to help improve the state of the village. We look forward to witnessing what the Lord has in store for them.

When we visited the school and the village were all in the water because of the heavy rain that had poured. We had to put on boots to walk around the area.

We paid a visit to Genocide Memorial Center where more than 200,000 people who were massacred during the genocide are buried. This place always makes people realize how cruel human beings can be.

In the evening, we took a cruise boat to experience the Mekong River. Everyone onboard was eating dinner, except for us, because we planned to eat our dinner at a pizza place.

The following day, we worshipped at the Korean First Church of Phnom Penh and visited Srolan Mango. A change in ownership and management was under discussion. So our coaching session was brief.

We also visited the Palm Sugar Manufacturing Plant. This project has been growing the fastest among all Hesed operations. They are working on an expansion project under KOICA's IBS program in which Hesed is receiving almost 3 million dollars over five years. I was so grateful for God's provision.

We had lunch at this Chinese restaurant, called MyunRyuKwan. What a clever name! The food was delicious!

We arrived in Phnom Penh on Saturday and left on Monday. It was a short weekend stint. But, we were all grateful for what was being done through Hesed. - Jeffrey
