Brasov, Romania (August 2023)

Brasov is another attractive city of Transylvania, Romania. It has a population of approximately 250,000 inhabitants and its streets are beautiful surrounded by green mountains. The view from our hotel room was spectacular. Below is the view to an orthodox church and the citadel at the top of a hill overlooking the city.

The city center has a large square and shops and restaurants are located conveniently surrounding the square.

We went to Pelesi Castle built for the German King Carlos I and Queen Elizabeth. The construction started in 1873 and lasted for 10 years. After 140 years since it was opened for use, it still has a functioning elevator with the electricity and the war running. The castle has 200 servants working to keep it maintained. It was beautiful with a garden and mountain view.

On the way down from the castle, there was a pathway packed with merchants. It was called a temptation alley, rightfully so.

On the way back to the hotel, we made a stop at Sinaia Monastery that was sponsored by Prince Michael and is still being actively used.

Kristin and I hung out to a restaurant nearby on our free dinner time. It was not on the high profile restaurant list, but we thoroughly enjoyed the tranquil environment. We found interesting wall decorations and the foods were not too bad, eithter.

There was a cable car going up to the mountain top where the Brasov sign is situated, but when I got there, the last one was just departing and I missed it.

I walked up to the Citadel that was located at the top of the hill facing the hotel. It was quite stiff but I managed to reach the top.

Right in front of the hotel was a City Park that was equivalent to New York's Central Park. It was peaceful and pleasant to stroll or to sit on the benches.

We enjoyed the stay in this charming city of Brasov. - Jeffrey
