San Antonio, Texas (November 2022)

After we said goodbye to Amanda and Ray, and their two children, we drove south to San Antonio via Austin. I wanted to take Kristin to this historic and beautiful city of Texas. There is the Alamo and the Riverwalk. These were too good enough reasons for our stayover.

The Alamo signifies the battle of the anglo settlers living in the Tejano state of the Mexican government against the Mexican government. It is called the Texas Revolution. After the Alamo battle won by the settlers, Texas became an independent republic in 1836. "Remember the Alamo" was a catch phrase  used to motivate people to fight for freedom. It is still remembered in Texas as the symbol of the fighting spirit against oppression for freedom.

Texas later became annexed as part of the U.S. leading to Mexican-American War that lasted for two years. The war ended in 1846 in favor of the U.S. through Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. As a result, the U.S. gained more than 525,000 square miles including most of Arizona, California, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and Texas. In exchange, the U.S. paid $15 million to the Mexican government. What a deal!

We took a Hop-On Hop-Off bus to see dozens of points of interest in San Antonio. One stop we made was Market Square.

Another stop we made was The Tower of the Americas. It is 750 feet tall and has a restaurant and observatory at the top. It was the tallest tower in the U.S. from 1968 until 1996 when a taller tower was erected in Las Vegas. It remains the tallest tower in Texas.

We found a tree that had an apartment complex of nests for small birds.

We also found a grandma angel, namely Kristin.

We walked around at the River Walk quite long. Later we took a boat ride to see the restaurants, bars, and shopping area from the water. The river is piercing through the city and trees were decorated with lights. It was a great place to hang out.

As we walked around the River Walk, we found a Sculpture Park where we enjoyed many interesting sculpture arts.

We ran into a mariachi band across the river. We love Mexican music as well as Mexican foods.

After checking out several restaurants, we ended up eating at Gumbo Shrimp.

We could walk around as long as we could because it was enjoyable.

We took the boat ride late in the afternoon in hopes of seeing the River Walk with lights on. We did not see the fully dark scenery, but we still enjoyed the boat ride.

On the way back to our car in the parking lot, we ran into lighted horse wagons and the Alamo at night.

We spent one full day in San Antonio and we felt very gratified by the schedule. - Jeffrey
