The next destination was Phnom Penh, Cambodia where Hesed was the primary focus.
Hesed Cambodia was established about six years ago by Bong Rae Lee, SfK Korea's CIO and a member of the Board of Directors. Its business lines include dried mango, coffee, trading for agricultural products, and palm sugar.
We visited one of the production cooperatives for palm sugar. They run afternoon-school offering classes for various topics.
Hesed built a church in cooperation with Canaan Church in Bundang, Korea, even before they built its manufacturing facility. The church now has more than 200 children attending the Sunday service, on top of dozens of adults. It is a blessing!
Hee Cheol Lee and his wife with their two children live in this housing where the product is made. It is noble that they made their own decision to be close to the workers of the plant.
Before we left, we hosted a Korean dinner for all family members of Korean expatriates. I heard that it was the first time for the entire family to gather together for fellowship. We felt encouraged by their warm appreciation.
We appreciated what they do at Hesed and prayed that it will grow and develop into an exemplary missional business that others may imitate. - Jeffrey
