Skopje, North Macedonia (February 2026)

After we enjoyed our visit to Lake Ohrid, we headed to Skopje, the capital city of North Macedonia. Kristin and I visited this place once before. So the city was not new to us. As before, I felt that the city had so many statues that were proportionally larger than the surrounding buildings and structures. We climbed up to the city walls and saw the surrounding areas with a better view.

The statue of Skanderbeg of Albania was even in Skopje, who fought for the freedom of Albania against the Ottoman Empire.

When we walked around the marketplace, we ran into a merchant who was selling roasted chestnuts, yeah, like in Korea!

Wow... chestnuts!

Statue of Phillip, the father of Alexander

We went inside this ship to have coffee. It was an experience, but only an experience.

This statue of Alexander the Great is probably the largest in the world. He was from the old Macedonian Empire, which now consists of modern Greece and North Macedonia. Technically, however, he was from a town now in Greece. So...?

This Catholic Church was new, built next to Mother Theresa's memorial house. Mother Theresa was born here in Skopje between Albania parents. She served in Kolkata, India. So is she an Albanian or a  Macedonian?

We spent only half a day, and moved on to Pristina, Kosovo. - Jeffrey
