Dubrovnik, Croatia (February 2026)

The next destination in Croatia was Dubrovnik, the Pearl of the Adriatic. It used to be a marine city-state competing against the Venetians. Its well-preserved city wall and the structures within the 800-year old fort walls attract tourists from all over the world. These structures included Rector's Palace, Sponza Palace, Bell Tower, Luza Square, Orlando Tower, Dominican Monastery, and Franciscan Monastery with the oldest pharmacy.

The Stadium, the main shopping center, was used as the filming location for the Last Jedi in the Star Wars series. We took a photo below.

During my free time, I visited the Maritime Museum where I found the old history quite interesting.

It was raining and windy the whole day, but the bad weather did not stop us from exploring this enchanting city.

This Franciscan Monastery had the oldest pharmacy in the world. Isn't it interesting?

This Old Dubrovnik is full of history and interesting places to visit.

Going down to Dubrovnik from the north used to be a hassle because people had to exit Croatia, enter Bosnia, and re-enter Croatia. Bosnia had a 6-mile coastal access, which made the access difficult within Croatia. However, now people can travel directly to Dubrovnik because the EU funded the building of a bridge that crosses over a strait to the Peljesac Peninsula, where Dubrovnik is located. This 2.4 km bridge, which opened in July 2022, is called the Peljesac Bridge. We were glad not to have to go through the border.

We found the southern end of the wall that stretched up to the mountain. I bet it would have been challenging to build the wall.

We signed up for the Traditional Croatian Dinner, part of the Village Tourism. The host explained about several Croatian cultures, musical instruments, and traditional dancing.

The hotel we stayed at was quite nice with an ocean view. We could not resist taking a group photo.

Our time in Dubrovnik was quite full, despite the weather challenge. - Jeffrey
