Meknes, Morocco (February 2024)

On the way to Fez, we made a stopover at Meknes. Meknes is one of four imperial cities in Morocco. They are Rabat, Fez, Marrakesh, and Meknes.

Meknes is famous for a Roman ruin site called Volubilis. Its scale was quite large and is considered the largest Roman ruin in North Africa. We were trying to imagine what it was like, as we walked around listening to the local guide's explanation. It is a UN heritage site.

The most famous aspect of Volubilis is its well-preserved mosaic tiles on the floors of many ruins. They are considered the best preserved in the world.

Some ruins looked intact and the blue sky in the background made them look shiny.

We saw olive trees on the way to and fro Meknes, widely scattered over the fields.

Before we left Meknes, we could take a panoramic picture of the imperial Meknes.

At this historically important place, we took a group photo.

Ruins are ruins. Without the stories behind each ruin, they are piles of rocks. But, their historical meanings bring the piles of rocks above. The next stop? Fez! - Jeffrey
