Santander, Spain (August 2025)

After we left San Sebastian, our next stay-over destination was Santander, the capital city of Cantabria Province. This place is well known to us because of the Santander Bank, which is headquartered in this city. On the way, we made a stop at Getaria, a cute fishing village.

We also made a stop at Laredo Beach, which is famous for the sculptures displayed along the beach.

As we were driving into Santander, we went first to the Magdalena Peninsula. We strolled along the beach boardwalk, past a small aquarium, walked in the park, and saw a few ships displayed.

We checked into Hotel Bahia, right by the Santander Bay. It was very convenient. But the parking was a challenge. I had to drive into an elevator and maneuver to park in a small designated spot. The way out on the narrow ramp was even a greater challenge. I am glad to have been able to manage it without scratching the car. Nearby the hotel was a big sculpture that appeared to present an abstract significance.

We went to visit Centro Botin, close to the hotel and right by the Santander Bay. It is an art center, famous for its unique structure. The panoramic view from the rooftop of the center was truly breathtaking.

We continued our walk to Paseo de Pereda along the boardwalk by the Santander Bay. Glass-made lady sculptures were impressive. Along this pathway were restaurants and bars across the boardwalk.

Right behind our hotel was Santander Cathedral. It was under renovation, but it was quite prominent.

Since the main part of downtown was nearby, I was able to strong on the city streets to watch people and spot a few interesting landmarks.

We stayed in Santander for one night, but we had a fond memory of this city. - Jeffrey
