San Sebastian, Spain (August 2025)

After we left Bilbao, we made a stop to see Zumaia Cliff on the way to San Sebastian. But the parking was a serious challenge, and we ended up making a really brief visit and had to move on.

We did not have an opportunity to explore the remarkable cliff scenery like the following:

As we arrived in San Sebastian, the gastronomy capital of the Basque Country, we headed to the Funicular to Monte Igueldo, where we could see the City of San Sebastian from a bird's-eye view.

The panoramic view was indeed spectacular. I was reminded of the view we saw in Capri, Italy.

At the top was a small amusement park, like a boat ride, go-kart, and game spots.

After we came down to the ground level, we walked by the San Sebastian Beach that was right next to the city downtown. It would be quite convenient for beachcombers from the city.

A river flows through San Sebastian, called the Urumea River. This river is a significant part of San Sebastian's landmarks, along with several bridges connecting the two banks. I was able to walk along the river a few times. Quite pleasant.

San Sebastian also has its famous old town, called Parte Vieja, right next to the beach. Like many other people, we did the so-called Pintxos Crawls, stopping by a few pintxos bars. In other parts of Spain, this pastime is called Tapas Tour.

We were planning to visit the San Telmo Museo. But it was closed. We could have learned more about the Basque Country's history and culture.

We thoroughly enjoyed our short two-night stay in San Sebastian. Walking on the boardwalk was pleasant with the sea breeze on our faces.

San Sebastian has the beach, the view, the gastronomy, and the river all close by. It has been attracting people from all over Europe. No wonder the real estate price was so high. - Jeffrey
