Shanghai, China (April 2019)

This trip to Shanghai was not the first time. We have been there. But, Shanghai is a big city and there are always a lot to see and experience in this largest commercial city in China.

We visited a temple in the city. The old tile roof buildings and the modern high-rise buildings are in harmony.

I visited Shanghai Museum, but the waiting line was far too long. I ended up visiting the store and came back.

We worshiped at Shanghai International Church where we also worshiped 10 plus years earlier. Foreigners were encouraged to gather to worship together. But only foreigners.

Nanjing Tong Ro is a pedestrian only commercial district. It is the largest of its kind in China. It stretched all the way to the Bund.

We visited a silk embroidery shop. The fine embroidery skills were outstanding.

Bund is the board walk by the Huang Po River that separates the old city on the west bank and the new city on the east bank where all the skyscrapers exist. It is a gathering place for Shanghaians as well as the tourists.

On the other side was the Hero's Monument and the opposite side had a statue of bull that was sculptured by the same artist who made the bull at the Wall Street.

Yuyuan Garden is an old style garden that has been preserved for hundreds of years.

Next to the garden is the commercial district where you can find all kinds of shops.

Our stay in Shanghai was short, but it remains a strategically and commercially important city due mainly to the fact that the city is situated at the mouth of Yangtze River. There are several colonial settlements from the U.K., France and U.S. - Jeffrey
