Cholula, Mexico (November 2025)

While staying in Puebla, we explored a neighboring town called Cholula or San Andres Cholula. Cholula means the place of retreat, but is best known for the Great Pyramid, which was built by the Aztecs. There was only the base visibly left, but I could easily estimate how big it must have been.

Like Puebla, Cholula also has many churches of different designs and purposes. One was built exclusively for the local Indios. The churches we visited included St. Peter's Parish, Royal Chapel, or Chapel of Naturales,  Convent and Atrium of Archangel Gabriel, located at the top of the hill.

On top of the hill where the Great Pyramid stood, the Spaniards built a church. This church was prominent, overlooking the town. The way to the church was quite steep, and I climbed it myself while Kris was resting at a coffee shop.

In Cholula, we also hired a local guide for the tour. We said farewell to her before I climbed to the church.

After climbing the steep hill, we still had to climb the steep stairs to the church.

The panoramic view of the town from the top was spectacular.

As I walked back down from the top, this scenery appealed to me.

Churro is always attractive, but this was too much to digest. I still enjoyed them while Kris enjoyed tacos.

It was a fun day to explore this 2,500-year-old city. - Jeffrey
