Cartagena (II) - San Felipe Castle, Colombia (Novelmber 2019)

Cartagena was the capital of slave trade in Caribbean Sea, particularly to the U.S. Also, the Spaniards collected golds and gem stones from the Caribbean islands and Latin America and shipped them to Spain from Cartagena.

Naturally, Cartagena was attracting the invasion and attacks from the pirates.

The Spaniards were attacked severely by the pirates a few times and decided to build a walled city of 11 km or 7 miles around Cartagena.

Also, the Spaniards built a fortress and castle on San Lazaro Hill, named San Felipe Castle-Fortress,  the largest in South America, in order to defend the city from pirate attacks. The scale was enormous.

The view of Cartagena from the castle was beautiful.

And the hats and caps displayed on the way up to the castle were well harmonized with the city view in a distance.

This castle alone could have taken a good half day to experience the circumstances of the past even in my imagination. - Jeffrey
