Joyce and Kyle (September 2021)

Joyce is the younger of two daughters God has entrusted with us. She has grown up to be old enough to get married. Her choice is Kyle, a third-generation Chinese American. His grandparents moved from Taiwan.

Kristin and I traveled to San Franciso a few days earlier than the wedding date for us to be mutually acquainted with Kyle's parents. For two days, we stayed at Nora's (Kyle's mom) house in Alviso or San Jose California. Kyle's sister Megan was visiting from Chicago to attend the wedding.

Nora's mom retired as principal from her education career. Megan used to work for Apple but is now freelancing as a graphic designer.

Kyle's father is Stewart Mock. Stewart and Nora got divorced and we met Steward separately over dinner. He was an engineer but is now engaged in stock trading after his retirement.

After our two-night stay at Nora's house, we moved to a hotel in Berkeley close to Joyce's apartment. It was an unnecessarily expensive resort-style hotel that Joyce chose to accommodate Amanda's family. Since Amanda and Ray got infected with COVID-19, they could not come, but we ended up staying there.

We hung out one day with Joyce and Kyle to get acquainted better, particularly Kristin to get to know Kyle better since I met him once a few years earlier. We took a ferry to San Francisco Wharf and walked around. Because of my limited mobility, we ended up shortening our hangout. But the lunch was good.

Joyce and Kyle invited their extended family members to a dim sum lunch. Due to the COVID-19, they could not attend the wedding that was scheduled to take place at the San Francisco City Hall. This dinner gathering was effectively wedding party. Kyle's mom was part of an eight-sibling family and Stewart had three siblings. So the gathering was quite large under the circumstances. But on our side, it was Kristin and myself that had to meet the large family.

On the wedding day, it was only seven of us who went to the San Francisco City Hall to attend their wedding. They were Nora, Stewart, Kristin, myself, and Megan as the witness to their signing the marriage certificate. It was short and sweet. A court clerk presided over the wedding vow and ceremony.

May their wedding receive God's favor and their marriage be intertwined with Jesus Christ at the center so that they may live an abundant life no matter what their physical life and situation may turn out to be. It is my sincere prayer.

After the wedding, we hosted lunch for seven of us at a Thai restaurant.

The following day, Joyce and Kyle flew to Iceland for their honeymoon. Kristin flew back home to Greer, SC. And I was supposed to fly out to Korea for a long stay to restore my Korean citizenship. But, I was rejected from boarding because my PCR test report was missing my middle name. I had to take the PCR test again at the SFO, costing me $275, and had to stay one more night for the next day flight. It was because of the strict rule imposed by the Korean government. Air Canada staff said that Korea was the worst, meaning the toughest.

After Joyce and Kyle returned from their honeymoon, they held a tea ceremony according to the Chinese tradition. As they offer tea to their elders, the elders gave them a red envelope as a token of their wish for blessings.

At any rate, we have gained one more son-in-law and the Lee family started growing a bit larger. Thank God for His grace! - Jeffrey
