Chongqing, China (April 2019)

Chongqing is the largest city in China with the population of 33 million. It is one of four autonomous municipalities, along with Shanghai, Beijing and Tianjin. It is a planned city in the middle and western part of China to facilitate the development inland China. It is by the Yangtze River and is the starting point of the New Silk Road or China's Belt Road Initiative. From Chongqing, the land belt connects to Urumqi to Kazakhstan and to Europe. The ocean road also starts from Chongqing to Kunming and further to Indochina region to the South East Sea.

We disembarked at Chongqing after the 4-night cruise on the Yangtze River.

The city seen from the ship in the morning was foggy and dull.

Our stay in Chongqing was rather short until we took a plane to Xian.

During this time, we visited US General Joseph Stilwell Museum. He came to China while National Party was still in power and helped Generalismo Chiang Kai-Shek in fight against the Japan and the Nazi during World War II. General Stilwell led a coalition of China, India and Burma over the area.

Later, we visited a mast theater and watched a show.

We flew out of Chongqing in the evening to Xian. - Jeffrey
