Trip to Jakarta, Indonesia (September 2017)

I made a trip to Jakarta, Indonesia to attend Transformation Business Network of Asia (TBN Asia) Conference. This was my first trip to Indonesia.

The conference was quite exciting and enlightening. I met a lot of people who are making transformation impact in the lives of people in many different ways. Not all of them are Christians, but some are and they are quite transformational. I even met an Islamic micro financial institution.

The most impressive transformation business I met was Van Nguyen of Hanoi, Vietnam. She was born disabled, but defied the handicap. She learned graphic photo shop skills and created a business that was designed to equip and empower other disabled people. Recently, she opened a branch office in Tokyo, Japan. What an amazing story! She was the only one on a wheelchair and she said her handicap was not a disadvantage but an advantage because she was noticeable. I promised to visit the company and I intend to do so in March 2018.

Another business that was impressive was Earth Heir. Two ladies started the business and they empower 120 plus Malaysian artisans by upgrading and selling their products. Their products were of high quality and we in principle agreed to find a way to work together. They were Christians and desired to produce holistic impact in the lives of the artisans.

There were many women entrepreneurs who shatter the glass ceiling and make a difference. They need encouragement and empowerment.

It was quite profitable to meet with Partners Worldwide people, including Jaqueline.

There were many other businesses that are making significant transformation impact, including Green Hope, GK Enchanged Farm.

I also noticed that Singaporean Christians are quite active in this type of endeavors. I learned that 25% of Singaporean population is Christian. I have met several Singaporean Christians in freedom business and transformation businesses. They should be obvious partners and friends to work with for the Kingdom work. Tun, Melvin, Kim, Josephine, Mason, Clifford etc.

It was a short trip, but it was encouraging to meet such many people how are like-minded in producing transformation impact in the less fortunate people.

One disturbing fact that I learned later was that Jakarta is sinking and could be under water unless the nation takes drastic measures for re-development because the foundation upon which the city is built is sinking. Well... That would be a tragedy if it happened. I hope not. - Jeffrey
