We left Dallas on February 19 to head to Greer, SC. On the way, we stopped over in Jackson, Mississippi, and Atlanta, Georgia. Because of the snowstorm in the southern states, the journey from Dallas to Jackson took us 11 1/2 hours, which would normally take 6 hours. Yikes! But, we were grateful for our safe arrival. The next leg from Jackson to Atlanta was smooth.
We stayed at a hotel until the closing on February 26 and moved into our new home. Without any furniture, we slept on the floor for a few days, but we felt blessed by the fact that we have now moved into our own home after 12 years of living in rented or temporary places.
For the next month or so, we were busy unpacking our stuff and assembling new furniture. It was quite an experience.
We received many questions about what has brought us to Greenville, SC. Nobody or nothing was puzzling to many, but it was true. Perhaps the airport. Really! Truly! After two unsuccessful attempts of making an offer to buy houses in Georgia at a price higher than listing prices even with an escalation clause, I felt compelled to explore different options. Greenville County was the first option that popped up. Only about two hours of drive from Buford, GA, it has a reputation as a peaceful small town where retirees are gathering. Good enough! I took a video tour and made an offer that was accepted on the same date. From then on, everything has gone smoothly. Oh well... Not really. I wanted to borrow a loan but it did not fly and we ended up buying it in cash.
As soon as we settled in, we met Dr. Inho Yoon and Sara Yoon as the first couple to know through the Korean Center of Greenville. We were invited to their house for dinner and we were so grateful for their hospitality. Dr. Yoon was retired from medical practice at the end of last year as an anesthetist. Sara Yoon is a realtor but started a Korean institute at her office.
We were invited to a few events that took place at the Korean Center of Greenville.
We met Pastor Jungho Kim who shepherds the Korean Grace Church of Greenville. He studied the Old Testament and received a doctorate degree from Bob Johns University. We attended his church once and were invited to his house for dinner.
We took a tour to Downtown Greenville, including Liberty Bridge over a river in the heart of downtown.
There are two lakes nearby: Robinson Lake and Lake Cunningham. We could even walk to both lakes.
We have been pleasantly surprised by the excellent water quality and clean air. Overall, the entire area is very green and people are friendly. The cost of living is affordable. The access to Korean markets and restaurants may be limited, but it is not so critical to us. So we are blessed by His leading us to this place. - Jeffrey
